GORANI
Welcome to the world of GORANI Gorani, Australia's unique 9 voice male singing ensemble, specializes in the performance of traditional songs from Georgia & Bulgaria. These include sublime church songs and blissful healing songs. Some of the songs are so old that their meaning has been lost. Others reflect on the harsh life not only of the farm workers, but of their faithful animals. There are love songs, some of which we are reluctant to translate in polite company. We even sing about horses galloping from Tbilisi to Moonee Ponds. Gorani refers to the harsh mountains, misty forests, and feisty spirit that are the cradle of many of the songs. Founded in 1992, Gorani includes leading Georgian ethnomusicologist Joseph Jordania, and Bulgarian born musician, Ian Vitcheff. Gorani has toured twice to Georgia and Bulgaria, has performed several times at the National Folk Festival and Port Fairy Folk Festival and has appeared for the Boite at the Melbourne Concert Hall and Melbourne Town Hall. It has appeared on national TV and radio in Georgia, Bulgaria and Australia. Gorani is " visually exciting. .. You cannot help but be entertained in a natural and artistic manner...singing these wonderful songs from Europe ..." (July 2005, City of Knox Choral Showcase adjudicator, Tony Gould, ex lecturer at Victoria College of the Arts). Email:
